Can Women With Uterine Fibroids Get Pregnant?
Fibroids are usually silent, but in 50% of cases, they manifest themselves with symptoms that can strongly influence daily life and the life of a couple, also causing infertility.
They are benign and can be single or multiple, ranging in size from a few millimeters to more than 15 centimeters. They are characteristic of the fertile age and tend to regress during menopause when the production of sexual hormones by the ovaries ceases.
Depending on the location and size, they do not hinder pregnancy. If located inside the uterine cavity (submucosal fibroids), they can cause excessive bleeding and make pregnancy difficult.
Fibroids are usually asymptomatic, but they can also occur with acute or chronic pain, particularly with compressive effects on nearby organs. The type of symptomatology or clinical sign and its severity depends on the size, position, and number of fibroids present.
