How Is Egg Collection Carried Out?

Egg retrieval is, as its name suggests, the procedure for removing eggs from the ovary. However, to carry out this procedure, it is necessary to perform ovarian stimulation, which will prepare for the egg collection procedure.

After this preparation, the procedure is performed through ultrasound-guided aspiration of the ovarian follicles. As it is an outpatient procedure, it is done safely and under sedation, meaning the patient will not feel any pain!

Puncture and egg collection

First, ovulation is induced. This means that you will have many eggs on the day of collection—starting nine or ten days after taking the medication. Egg collection is performed using ultrasound-guided aspiration. The patient remains sedated during the procedure.

After aspiration, the eggs are sent to the in vitro fertilization laboratory to be fertilized using the ICSI technique or to be frozen using the vitrification technique.
